'Pari' singer, Sunita Rao appears again!

So much so that Suneeta (Rao) , also the spokesperson of the NGO Population First has dedicated an entire song and video in her latest album ‘Waqt’ to the girl child. The song, titled Sun Zara, supported by the UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund), addresses the issue of sex selection and appeals to women not to abort a girl child. “The UNFPA approached me to do something for the cause as they wanted to take the entertainment route to spread the message,” explains Suneeta.

Yeah! And singing for a 'good' cause gets one free publicity too! also how did you get the UNFPA break? Good contacts?

That’s the story of how Sun Zara came about, but what about the rest of the album? Word has it the album took eight long years of hard work to produce. “Yes, in fact, the creative process began in 1998, when I’d taken a short sabbatical to New York. I’d got a sudden burst of inspiration then and wrote a lot of lyrics during that period. I didn’t know it then, but that was actually the beginning of Waqt. It’s been a long journey,” remembers Suneeta.

I wonder why had you disappeared all this time?

Then there are also the groovy and peppy numbers. Does the album have an underlying theme? “There’s no theme as such, but every song is somehow related to time (waqt). It’s not too deep, afterall it’s a pop album, but sometimes, the most simple emotions in life are intense na,” says Suneeta, philosophically. So, does she have another album up her sleeve in the coming months? “Oh no, not for a while! It took eight years to get this one out, now I need atleast two years to rest!” she signs off

Two years to rest! Lady, either you are ill or you have a creative block!
