We have heard many people saying, "my work is my pleasure. I am lucky." We all should be that lucky. But that seldom happens. The reason is the disconnect between what your innate nature is and what kind of career you take up.
Many of you who are in high school or in the final year in college must be being bombarded by advice about what career you should take up. The peer pressure is strong. "So-and-so is doing a MBA, so let me do it too. It has lots of money too."
Or your parents want you to be a doctor or an engineer. "Family tradition, son. You got to follow it," your dad might tell you.
If you want to be truly happy in life, disregard both these pressures. After all it's your life and you got to live with the kind of work you will choose for the rest of your life.
What to do? Simple! Think carefully and listen to your heart. What makes you most happy? When are you the happiest and full of vigour? The things you do when you are happy with yourself is your true calling in life. It is your 'core competence'. Choose a career in which your core competence lies and your life's made.
You should make your core competence your career, not your hobby. That is the simple mantra of a happy and satisfying life.
