Aamir Khan is establishing an identity as a filmmaker with a cause. After creating awareness about dyslexia in Taare Zameen Par, his next film production will tackle the issue of farmer suicides. The film will be the first effort at direction by Anusha Rizvi.
Aamir is smart! He knows that cine-goers are sick and bored of the usual stuff in Bollywood flicks. The way to a hit is new topics. Better if they are hot! Farmers's suicide are hot news nowadays. Taare Zameen Par was intended to tap into the sentimental cine-goers. Also the theme being dyslexia, the flick will also bag international awards.
The actor-producer was embroiled in a controversy with the Gujarat government following his comments on the rehabilitation of farmers displaced by the Sardar Sarovar Project.
It is learnt that his new film will raise the issue of the state of farmers and their exploitation.
Known for his sensitivity towards various social issues, including compensation for the victims of the Bhopal Gas tragedy (1984), Khan is believed to be disturbed by the high number of farmers' suicides.
He is not disturbed. He is sensitive. He knows such raw topics will draw in the crowds and also win critical acclaim. Must admit though, he knows how to make entertaining movies even on most boring (by Bollywood standards) subjects.
Khan won't be acting in the film. The acting crew will comprise actors from the theatre world.
You need good actors to make gripping cinema. But I bet there will be masala in the film.
The story revolves around a journalist who reports about the horrifying conditions of farmers. Buzz is that it borrows heavily from Rizvi's own life. She was a television journalist earlier.
It is also believed that Mansoor Khan will be actively involved in the production of the film that will be extensively shot in Uttar Pradesh later this year.
